Theme: Major   companies    that  operate  in  Kazakhstan   place  considerable   emphasis   on  Corporate   Social Responsibility (CSR). Moreover, in some cases the government authorities promote the concept by requiring social investments from companies as part of contractual obligations.       In this panel debate participants   question   to   what   extent   companies,   government   and   civil   society   are   utilising   the   full potential that the CSR agenda encompasses. The panelists highlight Kazakhstan’s recent track record on CSR, present global best practices that may have relevance for Kazakhstan and discuss how CSR can best be taken foward in Kazakhstan.

About the speakers

• Anton Atemyev is former Director of Kazakhstan Revenue Watch and Public Finance Transparency programmes at Soros Foundation-Kazakhstan and is an expert on transparency, accountability and public participation
• Ylva Lindberg is founder and managing director of SIGLA, a Norwegian consultancy on the role of business in society (www.sigla.no). SIGLA works with major companies (primarily Norwegian) on strategy formulation and capacity building on CSR. Ylva Lindberg is a member of the Council on Ethics for the Norwegian Government Pension Fund – Global (The Norwegian ’oilfund’). Ylva also serves as faculty at the Unviersity of Cambridge Programme on Sustainability Leadership 
• Yerzhan Bilyalov (TBC) is Excecutive Director of the Kazakhstan Petroleum Association and a former Vice Minster of Economy
• Jeff Erlich (TBC) is an independent consultant and former President of the Eurasia Foundation of Central Asia
