Competition Information:

To support and development that Kazakhstan Foundation’s tradition of philanthropy and charity, and to support the Administration of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in 2007 the first National Public Award “Altyn Zhurek” was established. The award was designed to recognize inpiduals, organizations, and businesses for socially significant activities that have had a positive impact on society.

The goals of this project are: (1) to promote the idea of charity and philanthropy in Kazakhstan; (2) to develop an ideal in the public eye of a contemporary philanthropist or benefactor; (3) to give a socially important status to philanthropists and benefactors; (4) to draw the attention of philanthropists and benefactors to government, public, and social programs; and (5) to promote further such philanthropic and charitable investments by philanthropists and benefactors.

Participants will have the opportunity to become profitable business and public figures, engaged in charitable and social programs in Kazakhstan. Winners will be of a high caliber, and will have made significant contributions to charitable and socially responsible projects.

Nominees

Winners will be selected in the following categories:

1. “Philanthropist of the Year” for large-scale philanthropic activities
2. “Patron of the Year” for supporting cultural development
3. “For assistance to orphans”
4. “For assistance to veterans”
5. “For assistance to the disabled”
6. “For the support and development of sports”
7. “For support of education”
8. “Organization of the Year” – for an organization that conducts a significant charitable project
9. “Informational Benefactor” – for the best coverage of philanthropy in the media
10. “Arts and Compassion” – for supporting charitable activities such, e.g. holding charitable concerts

Commission Structure and Selection Criteria:

1. Organizing Committee – The organizing committee organizes the event, accepts applications from partipants, and assesses and considers each applications.
2. Expert Council – Applications are also appraised by philanthropy experts, who are involved in philanthropy projects themselves. Experts include directors of rehabilitation centers, centers for the disabled, orphanages and children’s homes, charitable and philanthropic organizations, and international organizations. The Expert Council will select three candidates in each category.
3. Public Council - The Public Council will be made up of well-known political and social figures, poets, writers, artists, and professors, who can be trusted with choosing the winners.
